Adhi JV completes operations in 28 days against planned 48 days as oil output rebounds from 200 bpd and gas production reaches 1 MMscfd.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited on Wednesday announced successful workover and sidetracking operations at the Adhi South-2 well in the Adhi field, resulting in improved oil and gas production.
In a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday, the company said the Adhi field is operated by PPL with a 39% working interest, alongside joint venture partners Oil and Gas Development Company Limited holding 50% and Pakistan Oilfields Limited holding 11%.
According to the company, Adhi South-2 was drilled as an appraisal well in 2020 and initially produced around 800 barrels per day of oil before output declined to nearly 200 bpd over time.
PPL said the well underwent hydraulic fracturing during 2023-24 to improve production, but operations failed to sustain flow because of high water cut despite several rig-less intervention attempts, including gas-lift operations.
The joint venture later decided to sidetrack the well to bypass the water-bearing zone.
The company said sidetrack operations were completed in 28 days against the originally planned 48 days.
During post rig-release testing, the well produced around 850 barrels per day of oil and nearly 1 million standard cubic feet per day of gas.
PPL said the development would help improve current production levels and support the use of similar remediation techniques for other underperforming wells in the field.
