Punjab leads with 8.2 million businesses; figures show a significant increase of 5.3 million registered business taxpayers over the past three years
The number of registered businesses and companies with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has surpassed 12.5 million, according to official data presented in the National Assembly.
The figures show a significant increase of 5.3 million registered business taxpayers over the past three years, marking a notable rise in formal tax system participation.
Of the total registered entities, Punjab leads with 8.2 million businesses, followed by Sindh with 2.876 million. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 818,000 registered businesses, while Islamabad and Balochistan account for 467,000 and 221,000, respectively.
These figures reflect a growing trend of businesses joining the formal economy, aligning with the government’s efforts to expand the tax base through reforms and digital registration initiatives.
