Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced an ambitious plan to elevate Taxila into a globally renowned “City of Civilizations.” As part of this vision, she has directed the formation of the Taxila Heritage Authority and the immediate development of an operational framework.
Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb recently visited Taxila, where she chaired a high-level meeting to review the two-phase project. The first phase focuses on upgrading the city’s infrastructure and heritage, while the second aims to develop Taxila into a premier International Tourist City.

Several key decisions were taken during the meeting:
- Revival of the Taxila Arts & Crafts Village within 15 days
- Drafting of a world-class tourism policy
- Finalization of a comprehensive management plan for the preservation of ancient heritage and archaeological sites
Environmental protection efforts are also being expanded, with agencies increasing their scope of work in and around Taxila. Officials briefed the meeting on the successful completion of mapping local industries, factories, and brick kilns.
The meeting also featured in-depth discussions on the Taxila City Master Plan, including proposals for the expansion of the Taxila Museum and the establishment of an Open-Air Museum to highlight the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
