The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has successfully retrieved 43.11 acres of prime land worth Rs9,671 million belonging to Pakistan Railways, marking a major development in efforts to protect state assets.
The recovered property, located at Survey Numbers 48, 49, 50, and 51 in Deh Khanto Juma Goth, Karachi, is valued at Rs9.671 billion.
Investigation Timeline
The recovery followed a prolonged investigative process that began on July 13, 2019, after allegations surfaced that government land had been encroached upon by private textile mills.
Although the inquiry was temporarily closed following a decision by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, it was formally reopened in 2025 at the request of Pakistan Railways.
The renewed investigation focused on officials from the Railway and Revenue Departments, along with other individuals allegedly involved in the encroachment.
Land Restored to Pakistan Railways
While Pakistan Railways had maintained that possession of the land was secured in 2021 under Supreme Court directives, NAB’s findings revealed that private textile mills continued to occupy the site.
Following the completion of the inquiry, NAB officers successfully facilitated the retrieval of the land. The 43.11 acres have now been officially handed back into the physical possession of Pakistan Railways.
Strengthening Protection of State Assets
The recovery represents a significant milestone for NAB, reinforcing its role in combating illegal occupation of government property and safeguarding public assets.
