Pakistan and Turkey Consider Launching Ferry Service

Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to strengthen maritime cooperation by exploring new initiatives, including a potential ferry service between the two countries and collaboration in shipbuilding, ship operations, and the shipbreaking industry.

The discussions were held between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Turkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu. Both sides emphasized enhancing maritime connectivity and expanding economic partnerships through sustainable ventures.

Junaid Anwar highlighted that Gwadar Port offers vast opportunities for blue economy projects and invited Turkish private investors to participate in port-based industries. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to developing Gwadar into a modern maritime and logistics hub that will boost regional trade and the national economy.

The minister noted that maritime collaboration with Turkiye would strengthen Pakistan’s technical expertise and open new trade routes. He added that Pakistan values its close ties with Turkiye and aims to expand cooperation in shipping, logistics, fisheries, and port development.

Turkish Minister Uraloglu welcomed the proposal for a ferry service and said the plan would be reviewed by Turkiye’s transport ministry. He also announced that a Turkish delegation of shipowners and port service providers will visit Pakistan soon to explore investment prospects in Gwadar Port.
