Islamabad is set to have Asia’s largest Gardenia Hub and Model Nursery, developed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as part of its efforts to promote horticulture, biodiversity, and sustainable urban landscaping.
Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa visited the CDA Model Nursery on Park Road on Tuesday, accompanied by Member Environment Asfandyar Baloch, Member Engineering Syed Nafees Raza, Director General Environment, and other senior officials to review the ongoing development and upgradation work.
During the visit, Chairman CDA was briefed on the upgradation, restoration, and transformation of the CDA Model Nursery into the Gardenia Hub, spread over more than 50 acres of land. Officials informed that the Gardenia Hub will be one of the largest nurseries in Asia, featuring over one million plants cultivated using advanced techniques.
The facility aims to serve as a central hub for plantation, research, and sustainable beautification projects across Islamabad. The CDA chief was informed that the Gardenia Hub includes nearly 25 state-of-the-art controlled, ventilated greenhouses, designed to provide an ideal environment for plant growth and research.
These modern greenhouses will help in the propagation of new plant varieties through advanced techniques and ensure the production of high-quality ornamental and indigenous plants suited for the region’s climate. Officials further briefed that the nursery will also host flower shops, a training and research center, and designated areas for floral exhibitions.
To facilitate citizens, a mobile application will soon be launched, allowing residents to purchase plants directly from the Gardenia Hub. The nursery will also maintain a substantial stock of plantation material to meet future needs for Islamabad’s tree plantation and forest preservation initiatives.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that the Model Nursery has been upgraded into a state-of-the-art facility meeting international standards. He emphasized that the upgradation of the CDA nursery into the Gardenia Hub will make Islamabad a leading center for horticulture in the region and a major step toward making the federal capital greener, cleaner, and more beautiful.
