City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Sunday inaugurated a vertical parking plaza at Bolton Market, a long-delayed project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city’s commercial hub.
Developed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the facility can accommodate over 200 cars and 250 motorcycles. Speaking at the event, Wahab said the project was delayed for nearly five decades due to court disputes and political hurdles.
He said the original plan dated back to the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, but the project was shelved during General Zia-ul-Haq’s era. “After 49 years, we are finally opening this facility to the public,” he said.

Wahab stressed that decision-making must not be stifled by fear of investigations or court interference. He added that when Bolton Market prospers, so does Karachi and Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and other city officials. Wahab vowed that Karachi’s development would continue under the PPP’s vision and leadership.
