Pakistan is exploring the possibility of locally producing insulin in collaboration with Russia, as a high-level meeting of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) was held on Thursday to discuss the initiative.
The meeting, chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, brought together Denis Nazarov, representative of the Russian government, Secretary of Industries and Production Saif Anjum, and senior DRAP officials, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industries and Production.
The discussions centered on establishing local insulin manufacturing facilities in Pakistan through a joint project with Russia. Haroon Akhtar highlighted that the initiative would not only ensure access to affordable life-saving medicine but also mark a new chapter in bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

He said the project would be implemented in phases, with technology transfer and large-scale production expected within three years. The venture is also expected to attract foreign investment, create new business opportunities, and strengthen Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector.
The SAPM stressed that strict compliance from all partner companies would be crucial to guarantee the success and sustainability of the insulin manufacturing project.
