Rs. 30 Billion Project: Punjab Unveils Plan for Six Aqua Business Centers

The Punjab government has announced plans to set up six state-of-the-art Aqua Business Hubs across the province to boost the fisheries sector and strengthen food security.

In the initial phase, these hubs will be established in Rawalpindi, Wazirabad, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Khanewal. Each center, with an estimated cost of Rs. 5 billion, will be developed over two years.

These hubs will feature advanced fish hatcheries, feed supply chains, processing facilities, and cold storage, along with value addition units, research labs, and training centers.

Officials say the initiative will introduce new technologies to the fisheries industry, support local farmers with training and resources, and generate employment.

The project, directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is being included in the provincial budget to ensure swift implementation. The centers are expected to support the successful farming of over 16 fish species suited to Punjab’s environment.
