Govt Orders Faster Progress on Five Motorway and Highway Projects

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to speed up work on five key highway projects, including M-6, M-10, and the Naran-Kaghan route. The directive came during a high-level review meeting on infrastructure development.

The NHA will invest Rs. 150 billion during the current fiscal year from its own resources to push forward new road projects. Of this amount, Rs. 100 billion has been earmarked for the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman (N-25) highway in Balochistan, which is expected to commence soon.

Aleem Khan stressed that all future motorway projects must have at least six lanes to ensure long-term capacity and performance. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to executing highway projects under the public-private partnership model to draw private sector investment.

He noted that NHA’s rising revenue is a strong signal that it’s time to deliver real results. Priority projects are expected to reach 90% completion within the year. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate completed sections once key milestones are achieved.

All pending proposals for Gilgit-Baltistan were also approved. The minister called for balanced development across all provinces and instructed that regional needs guide project planning.

The Lahore-Kasur road project was clarified to have no link to Raiwind, addressing recent concerns.
