A pilot initiative aimed at converting kitchen waste and animal dung into biogas and organic fertiliser has been launched in Karachi’s South District, according to Express News.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, accompanied by SSWMB) Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani visited the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Workshop to review the newly installed biodome facility.
The project, a collaborative effort between the SSWMB and Aysis International, is designed to transform organic waste into clean energy and compost, marking a significant step toward sustainable waste management in the city.

Mayor Wahab welcomed the initiative, describing it as a “positive step,” and commended both organizations for their partnership. “It’s encouraging to see this pilot project launched in District South, where kitchen waste is now being used to generate biogas and fertiliser,” he said.
He further noted that the project complements the city’s broader efforts to implement door-to-door waste collection and convert waste into usable resources. “We’re working toward establishing recycling plants in every district to help reduce and repurpose waste,” he added.
The mayor also instructed officials to expand the project citywide and identify more locations suitable for large-scale implementation. “We’re fully committed to supporting the growth of this initiative. Our goal is to create a cleaner, greener Karachi,” Wahab stated.
