A program has been launched to distribute 15,000 solar home systems in Balochistan with the cooperation of China.

Quetta (Gwadar Pro) – To overcome the electricity shortage in Balochistan, the provincial government has launched a program to distribute 15,000 solar home systems with financial assistance from Chinese aid agencies.

This initiative will be implemented by the Balochistan government’s Energy Department with grants from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the South-South Cooperation for Climate Change.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti inaugurated the program during a ceremony in Quetta on Wednesday and emphasized the importance of Gwadar in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Calling the port city the “jewel in the crown” of CPEC, Bugti said, “Gwadar will be a key hub for this program.” He added that at least 5,000 solar systems would be allocated specifically for Gwadar.

Sarfraz Bugti urged the people of Gwadar to recognize their central role in the development of CPEC. He stated that CPEC was made possible because of them and will move forward because of them. These small steps, he said, are ways to convey a message of commitment to the people.

China has previously played a role in addressing the energy challenges faced by Gwadar. In July 2022, the Chinese government donated 3,000 solar systems to help reduce electricity shortages and climate-related issues in the region.
